Dhaka, June 17 -- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said that "necessary force" will be used in operations against snatchers and extortionists, adding that police will act in self-defence when confronted with attacks.

On Tuesday, he said police would aim to use "minimum force", but would be compelled to take protective measures where officers came under attack or faced armed resistance.

The commissioner spoke on Tuesday night following an incident earlier in the day in Dhaka Udyan, where police personnel came under attack with sharp weapons during an operation.
