Dhaka, Oct. 25 -- The per capita income in the Dhaka District has risen to $5,163, almost double the national average of $2,820, according to new research by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

The findings were revealed in the chamber's newly published Economic Position Index (EPI) report, which aims to measure quarterly changes in the country's economic activity.

Presenting the findings at a ceremony on Saturday, DCCI Secretary General AKM Asaduzzaman Patwary said Dhaka alone accounts for 46 percent of Bangladesh's total GDP and 40 percent of total employment.
