Dhaka, Feb. 25 -- A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to death for strangling his wife in Bhatara 13 years ago.

The sentencing concluded a long-running murder trial that began after the victim was found bound and lifeless in their home.

Dhaka's Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shahidul Islam delivered the verdict on Wednesday, confirmed Farukul Islam Dewan, bench assistant.

He said the court also fined the convict Tk 10,000 in addition to the death penalty.

"The convict is absconding after securing bail. An arrest warrant has already been issued against him."

According to the case statement, Jibon Hossain, also known as Mukul, married Fahima Begum in 2012. The couple had a six-month-old son.
