Dhaka, Aug. 23 -- Constable Safiur Rahman has appeared in court facing charges of raping a co-worker at the South Keraniganj Police Station barracks in Dhaka.

On Saturday, Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ali, the case's investigation officer, presented him in court and applied for a five-day questioning.

As Safiur did not have a lawyer, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Mohammad Saleh sought to hear his statement.

The constable, who married a year ago, told the court he wished to marry the colleague who has brought charges against him.

The court contacted the plaintiff and "suggested" settling the case, and ordered Safiur into jail.
