Bangladesh, Sept. 15 -- A court has sentenced Suparna Sur Chowdhury, wife of former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar Sur, also known as SK Sur Chowdhury, to two years in prison for failing to submit an asset declaration.

Judge Rabiul Islam of the Dhaka Special Judge's Court delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

ACC Prosecutor Shah Md Nazmus Shakib said, "In addition to the sentence, she has been fined Tk 100,000. In default of payment of the fine, she will have to serve another three months in prison."

Suparna was produced before the court from jail before the verdict was delivered.

Afterwards, a sentence warrant was issued and she was taken to prison.
