Dhaka, Feb. 22 -- China has warned that no external power should be allowed to damage its growing relationship with Bangladesh, as Beijing signalled strong support for the new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with senior officials, the Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said China-Bangladesh cooperation benefits the region and "should not be affected by any foreign forces".

"Our cooperation with Bangladesh, like our relations with other South Asian countries, fully benefits the people of the region and is supported and embraced by them," he said.
