Dhaka, May 3 -- At least nine people, including a one-year-old child, have died while two others have been injured in a fire that broke out in a four-storey building in Delhi's Vivek Vihar area early on Sunday.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the building around 4am, following which as many as 14 firefighting units were rushed to the spot to put out the blaze and carry out rescue operations, NDTV reports.

On reaching the scene, officials found the fire had spread to the third and fourth floors of the building located at Vivek Vihar, a prime location in East Delhi.

More than a dozen people were rescued from the building, officials said.

The injured have been taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.
