Bangladesh, July 9 -- Heavy rain has washed away the approach road to a bridge in Nilphamari's Kishoreganj Upazila, leaving around 20,000 residents facing severe disruption.

The Upazila administration has assured locals that emergency repairs will begin immediately.

On Thursday morning, strong river currents triggered by days of heavy rain caused one side of the bridge approach near Beltali Bazar in Nitai Union to collapse, according to local residents.

Later in the day, Kishoreganj administrator (UNO) Arifur Rahman visited the site and promised swift repairs.

Residents said several days of heavy rain and upstream flows had swollen the river, causing strong currents that eroded the approach road.
