Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 Mirza Abbas has said he will not accept what he described as an "engineered result" in the election, alleging attempts to create confusion as voting continued.
Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot at Mirza Abbas Mohila College around 12:30pm on Thursday, he said polling had been peaceful so far.
"Up to 12:40pm, the election has been peaceful, good and fair," he said.
Abbas dismissed allegations by his rival, Nasiruddin Patwary of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance, that polling agents had been forced out of a centre in the constituency.
"I am not aware of that. I have contested elections in this area five or six times. I have never heard such allegations," he said.
