Dhaka, Feb. 13 -- The BNP has won 13 of Dhaka's 20 parliamentary seats in Thursday's election, consolidating its position as the party set to form the next government.

The remaining seven seats in the capital were secured by candidates from the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance.

Nationwide turnout stood at 59.44 percent, according to the Election Commission, with the BNP-led alliance maintaining an overall edge -- a trend mirrored in the capital.

In Dhaka-1, BNP's Khandaker Abu Ashfaq won with 173,781 votes, defeating Jamaat's Mohammad Nazrul Islam.

BNP's Md Amanullah Aman won Dhaka-2 with 163,793 votes, while Abdul Haq of Jamaat-e-Islami secured 80,053.
