Dhaka, Feb. 9 -- Tarique Rahman has expressed regret for past mistakes and sought the support of the nation in the parliamentary elections.

The BNP chairman made the appeal in a televised speech ahead of the parliamentary elections.

"Since returning from abroad, I have tried to reach out to you and have felt your affection and loyalty toward the BNP. February 12 will be the day to show your support once again," he said in a speech broadcast on Bangladesh Television (BTV).

Tarique said he "might have committed mistakes" while his party was elected to power more than once in the past. He said the mistakes were "not intentional".
