Bangladesh, Aug. 29 -- Bill Maher takes aim at the wave of public grief over Dolly Parton's death, arguing that Americans have been too consumed by mourning to pay attention to more pressing matters.

The comedian and talk show host opened Friday's episode of Real Time with Bill Maher by pointing to the ongoing trade war between the United States and Canada before pivoting to what he saw as a misplaced national preoccupation.

"All this is going on, and all America could really talk about this week was how sad it is we lost Dolly Parton," Maher said in remarks shared to X on Friday night.

Parton died on Aug 25 following what her family described as a "brief battle" with cancer. She was 80.
