Dhaka, Aug. 24 -- The Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) has burnt an effigy of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Advisor Fazlur Rahman at Dhaka University campus to protest what they described as "insulting" remarks about the July Uprising.

The protests took place at the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus on Sunday evening.

BGCS Member Secretary Zahid Ahsan said at the demonstration that Fazlur Rahman, in an attempt to demean the July Uprising, spoke in the same manner as Hasina [on Saturday]. He referred to those who carried out the July Uprising as "Razakars" (a term for collaborators with the Pakistani military in 1971) and "dark forces".
