Dhaka, June 6 -- The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), with the help of local residents, has thwarted an attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push six people into Bangladesh through a border point in Meherpur's Gangni Upazila.

The incident occurred near Pillar 104 of the Tentulbaria border early on Saturday, said Nurul Huda, assistant director of the Kushtia-based 47 BGB Battalion.

The six individuals -- three men, two women, and a child -- are currently staying on the Indian side near the barbed-wire fence.

According to the BGB, the BSF had opened a section of the fence and attempted to force the group towards Bangladesh.
