Bangladesh, Aug. 27 -- The Supreme Court has granted permission for a fresh appeal against its 2011 ruling that scrapped the caretaker government system.

A full seven-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, delivered the ruling on Wednesday and set Oct 21 for the appeal hearing.

The caretaker government model, introduced through the 13th constitutional amendment in 1996, was struck down as unconstitutional by the Appellate Division in May 2011. Parliament later passed the 15th Amendment to the Constitution, abolishing the system.
