Dhaka, March 11 -- The government is set to procure three cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market on an emergency basis to tackle potential energy shortages amid the Iran war.
Two of the cargoes will be procured from a South Korea-based company and the remaining one from a UK company.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase approved the proposal on Wednesday, according to a media statement from the finance ministry.
The LNG imports are part of efforts to ensure stable fuel supply as global energy markets remain volatile.
