Dhaka, May 11 -- The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been on highest alert along the border with India since the state assembly elections in West Bengal, says Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

He made the announcement on Monday while talking to reporters after a meeting chaired by the prime minister.

The decision comes as the new state government of West Bengal said it will transfer land to the Border Security Force (BSF) to erect fences along the Bangladesh border.

On May 4, the BGB ordered its members to be vigilant to prevent infiltration during the vote counting in four Indian states, including West Bengal.
