Bangladesh rolls out redesigned Tk 5 note with archaeological theme
Dhaka, May 19 -- The government has released a new Tk 5 currency note featuring images of the "historical and archaeological architecture of Bangladesh".
The note, carrying the signature of Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, is set to enter circulation on Tuesday.
According to the Financial Institutions Division of the finance ministry, the notes are being issued initially through the Bangladesh Bank's Motijheel office and will later be available at other branches.
Following the fall of the Awami League government in 2024, the then interim administration decided to remove the portrait of independence architect Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from all currency, leading to this redesign.
