Dhaka, May 10 -- Bangladesh has extended an invitation to top Italian football clubs to visit for friendly matches, as part of efforts to deepen cultural ties between the two nations.

The invitation was conveyed by Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister Humaiun Kobir during a courtesy meeting with Italian Ambassador to Dhaka Antonio Alessandro on Sunday at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon.

According to a media statement from the foreign ministry, the two sides emphasised strengthening people-to-people contact and expanding cultural exchange through sports.

It said the meeting also held discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and Italy.
