Bangladesh approves three new Upazilas, one police station
Dhaka, July 1 -- Bangladesh has approved the creation of three new Upazilas and one new police station under an administrative reorganisation.
The move will create new units in Chattogram, Cumilla and Mymensingh, taking the total number of Upazilas in Bangladesh to 498 and police stations to 640.
The approvals came on Tuesday at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reform (NICAR) at the Secretariat, presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Under the decision, Halda Police Station will be formed by splitting Chattogram's Hathazari Police Station.
A new Upazila named Fatikchhari North will be created with six unions from Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram.
