Dhaka, Feb. 5 -- Bangabhaban Assistant Programmer Sarowar Alam, who was detained following allegations that he "hacked" the X account of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman, has secured bail.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid granted him bail on Thursday.

Earlier, police said he was shown arrested on Wednesday night in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act with Hatirjheel Police.

The investigating officer of the case, Hatirjheel Police Sub-Inspector Khandaker Saleh Abu Naim, produced him in court and sought an order to keep him in custody.

Jamaat-backed lawyer Abdur Razzak opposed the bail on behalf of the plaintiff, while defence counsel Md Alamgir argued for it.
