Dhaka, May 14 -- Health authorities in Cumilla have confirmed the death of another child from measles, raising the total number of fatalities in the district to eight.

The Civil Surgeon's Office said on Thursday that the child from Homna Upazila died on Apr 21 while undergoing treatment at Dhaka North City Corporation Hospital.

Later laboratory tests confirmed the child had measles.

Piyas Ahmed, a medical officer at the Cumilla Civil Surgeon's Office, explained that the child died in Dhaka last month, but was added to the district's death toll after the test results came back positive.

In the last 24 hours, 23 people have been hospitalised with measles symptoms in Cumilla, with three cases officially confirmed through testing.
