Dhaka, May 3 -- Bangladeshi mountaineer Babar Ali has set his sights on climbing the remaining nine peaks above 8,000m after successfully summiting Mount Makalu, the world's fifth-highest mountain.

In a 51-second video message from the base camp on Sunday afternoon, he outlined his goal of scaling all 14 eight-thousanders.

Babar, who has been pursuing this ambition for several years, has now climbed five of the world's peaks above 8,000 metres: the highest number achieved by any Bangladeshi climber.

The Chattogram-born mountaineer, who is a doctor by profession, has successfully summited all five peaks he has attempted so far.

He is also the first Bangladeshi to reach the summit of Makalu.
