Dhaka, May 4 -- Shimanto Bank PLC has appointed Abul Kashem Md Shirin and Barrister Shahwar Jamal Nizam as independent directors on its board.

Shirin is a former managing director and CEO of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, where he served for over nine years, a media statement said.

He joined the bank in 2003 and played a role in expanding its digital banking services, including ATM and POS networks, cards, mobile apps, mobile financial services and agent banking.

Before that, he worked at BASIC Bank as deputy general manager and head of IT.

He began his career in 1984 at Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation.
