7 get death, 7 others jailed for life over Jamalpur uncle-nephew murders
Bangladesh, Aug. 20 -- A Jamalpur court has sentenced seven people to death and seven others to life in prison for the murders of an uncle and his nephew following a dispute linked to a local election a decade ago.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nezam Uddin handed down the verdict on Thursday afternoon, public prosecutor Didarul Islam Didar said.
Those sentenced to death are Sakhawat, 32, Sohel, 30, Al Amin, 30, Saddam, 30, Ujjal, 30, Antor, 30, and Foyzur, 32.
The court also fined each of them Tk 50,000.
Seven others - Chan Mia, 51, Md Ziar, 46, Shah Alam, 42, Kawsar, 30, Rifat, 32, Sumon, 32, and Mostofa, 40 - were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000 each.
