Dhaka, Oct. 2 -- Three people, including an 8-year-old boy, have been injured after a lift plunged when its cables apparently snapped at a government housing complex in Dhaka's Mirpur.

The incident occurred at Building No. 1 of the Paikpara housing complex for public servants around 6am on Friday.

The injured were identified as Mostafizur Rahman, 62, Nais Ahmed, 40, and his 8-year-old son Md Wasi.

Doctors said Nais suffered fractures to both legs.

They were taken to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Agargaon.

Residents alleged that the lift had been faulty for a long time and had repeatedly been put back into service after minor repairs.
