Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- At least 23 people have been injured in clashes between supporters of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Meherpur's Mujibnagar and Gangni Upazilas amid allegations of obstructing voters from going to polling stations.

The violence began on Thursday morning spread across two locations, prompting intervention by law-enforcing agencies and security forces.

According to police, a clash broke out around 9:30am about 100 yards from a polling station in Joypur village under Mujibnagar Upazila.

The confrontation between BNP and Jamaat supporters left five people injured.

Mujibnagar Police Station chief Zahidul Islam said police responded swiftly after receiving reports of the incident.
