Dhaka, March 5 -- Police in Bagerhat have received a formal complaint concerning the disappearance of approximately 200 bhori (2.3kg) of gold jewellery from a businessman's safety deposit locker at a local Pubali Bank branch.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Shamim Hossain said an inquiry commenced on Thursday after officers inspected the branch located on Khan Jahan Ali Road.

Following the initial report, Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Hasan Chowdhury also visited the bank premises later that afternoon.

The affected businessman, Sumon Kumar Das, is a resident of the Dashani area in Bagerhat.

He has been operating a betel nut business for many years.
