Dhaka, Dec. 26 -- The bodies of two people who went missing after a sand-laden freight vessel capsized following a collision with a launch in Narayanganj have been recovered.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Assistant Director Kamrul Hasan confirmed that the bodies were recovered from the engine room of the capsized freight vessel at 4:45pm.

The dead are identified as Jahurul Islam, 25, hailing from Patuakhali, and Md Hasan, 20, from Jhalakathi's Rajapur.

The accident occurred in the Dharmaganj area around 6:15am on Friday, according to Pagla River Police Outpost Inspector Akibul Islam.

The BIWTA confirmed that three other workers from the freight vessel had managed to swim ashore immediately after the accident.
