18 pro-Jamaat law officers of Attorney General's Office resign
Dhaka, June 23 -- Eighteen law officers of the Attorney General's Office have resigned to protest the non-implementation of the July Charter, the state's opposition to a separate judiciary secretariat, and the repeal of the Supreme Court Judge Appointment Ordinance.
Of them, seven were deputy attorney generals (DAGs) and 11 assistant attorney generals (AAGs), all aligned with the Jamaat-e-Islami.
They submitted their resignations simultaneously to the Attorney General's Office on Tuesday afternoon, said DAG Yusuf Ali, who also quit.
"There are three reasons: not implementing the July Charter, not forming a separate judiciary secretary, and repealing the ordinance that appoints Supreme Court judges," said Yusuf.
