Bangladesh, Aug. 1 -- A man has died after allegedly being beaten by local BNP activists during a dispute over unpaid rent on a shop they had converted into a party office in Narayanganj's Araihazar.
The incident took place on Wednesday morning when Jahangir Hossain, a grocery shop owner, had reportedly attempted to resume business at his premises after repeated failures to collect dues from the local BNP unit that had occupied it.
According to his family, Jahangir, from Salmodi Nayapara village in the Upazila, had earlier mortgaged the shop to fund his son's migration abroad.
Facing pressure to repay debts, he had recently decided to reclaim the space and restock it with groceries.
