Bangladesh: Inflation Intensifies in April
Bangladesh, May 6 -- Inflationary pressure on Bangladesh's economy intensified in April, as inflation crossed 9.0 per cent, driven by a sharp rise in both food and non-food prices amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Inflation as measured by the consumers' price index (CPI) rose to 9.04 per cent in April 2026 from 8.71 per cent of the previous month on the point-to-point basis, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS)'s latest data, released on Wednesday.
The inflation in the case of food items rose to 8.39 per cent in April from 8.24 per cent a month before while the non-food inflation increased to 9.57 per cent from 9.09 per cent on the point-to-point basis.
