United Kingdom, July 21 -- The US Department of Justice has announced almost 3,000 websites have been blocked or seized during the World Cup.

Thousands of websites have been targeted after illegally streaming matches from the tournament, with more than 1,000 domains closed in the US alone, and a similar number in Colombia.

The DOJ's assistant attorney general A. Tysen Duva said: "The sustained effort to seize more than a thousand domains dedicated to illegally streaming the World Cup confirms the administration's commitment to intellectual property rights and to the success of the 2026 FIFA World Cup."
