United Kingdom, Aug. 4 -- A Bollywood star has threatened legal action against people creating "deepfake content" of her likeness on social media.

Mrunal Thakur, who predominantly works in Hindi and Telugu films, has taken to X to bemoan the recent rise of X-rated deepfake content that appears on social media platforms, and she's warned that any further "misuse of [her] identity will result in legal action".

Thakur, 34 - who stars alongside Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai - wrote on X: "Creating or sharing deepfake content using my likeness is illegal and unacceptable. Consider this your formal notice to stop immediately. Any further misuse of my identity will result in legal action."
