United Kingdom, April 22 -- Prince's ex-wife Mayte Garcia has reflected on the "intense sadness" she felt following the music legend's death.

The Purple Rain artist died at the age of 57 on April 21, 2016, after an accidental fentanyl overdose at his Minnesota home and Garcia recalls how her personal sense of loss was amplified by the tributes paid to the musician from around the world.

The 52-year-old dancer, who was married to Prince from 1996 to 2000, told Us Weekly: "It was an intense sadness. An intense sadness, that's all I can remember of losing him.
