United Kingdom, Oct. 11 -- Michael Lohan has been released from prison early.

The 65-year-old father of actress Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to nine months in jail after violating probation in his felony assault case in April but he has been let go 24 days early, a representative for the Palm Beach County Detention Centre in Florida told TMZ.

Michael was eligible for early release after obtaining "gain time" by working as a trustee inmate while in prison.

Michael told TMZ in a statement: "I'm thankful for my early release and being reunited with my boys. This should have never happened. It was wrong! As usual, there's a lot more to the story than what's been reported. I'm just happy to be free and I'm sorry for the negative press it has...
