United Kingdom, Sept. 22 -- Melissa McCarthy says the Gilmore Girls weren't allowed "change a contraction" in the script.

The 56-year-old star landed her first major role as Sookie St. James in Amy Sherman-Palladino's beloved comedy drama, and she appeared in all seven seasons from 2000 to 2007.

She told Variety: "It's good training, I tell you that! It was hard. It was really hard. But to me, that was normal, because it was my first show.

"So I was like, 'Oh, our scripts are 93 pages, and you can't change a contraction, even if you get them that morning and it's a 10-page oner.'

"And that's just what it was. I love that she had her own style, and I love that she built that world."
