United Kingdom, Aug. 11 -- Dax Shepard says he and his father were a "match made in hell".

The Parenthood star was talking to Taron Egerton on his Armchair Expert podcast when he opened up about his complicated relationship with dad Dave, who died in 2012 after losing his battle with lung cancer.

He mused: "I think we were very similar more than I ever wanted to admit. I think the way we got injured and the way we protected ourselves was just like a match made in hell, for the most part."

Meanwhile, Taron said that he'd had a "fairly functional relationship" with his dad when he was growing up, but noted that it had "become more difficult" as he was growing up.
