United Kingdom, March 14 -- The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is no longer happening.

Hulu had announced plans for the follow-up series Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale - directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao - last year but star Sarah Michelle Gellar has announced the "sad" news that the network is no longer moving forward with the show.

In a video posted on her Instagram account, the 48-year-old actress said: "I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale.
