United Kingdom, Oct. 11 -- Bette Midler has led tributes to the "extraordinary" Diane Keaton following her death.

The passing of the Oscar-winning actress at the age of 79 was announced by her family on Saturday (11.10.25) and Bette - her co-star in the 1996 comedy flick The First Wives Club - is among those from the film industry who have paid tribute to the Hollywood icon.

Bette wrote on Instagram: "The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was... oh, la, lala!"
