Kenya, Aug. 25 -- I believed that after working hard for decades, life would finally slow down and grant me the tranquilly I had earned when I eventually retired. I had saved hard, planned properly, and looked forward to living a dignified golden age. The harsh betrayal I would experience from con artists that target the elderly, however, was something I did not anticipate. It started out innocently.

The caller was smooth-talking and said he was from a reliable investment firm. He assured me of future stability, little risk, and consistent earnings. I consented to invest since I wanted to increase my retirement funds a bit. Everything appeared real at first. I thought the business was genuine since I got little payments. Then the payments gradually ceased. No one picked up when I called. My emails were returned as bounces.
