CANBERRA, ACT, July 18 -- Australian Federal Police issued the following media release:
A West Australian man has been charged with allegedly threatening a federal parliamentarian.
The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation on 6 July, 2026, after receiving a notification of an alleged online threat to kill a federal parliamentarian.
Police allegedly linked the man, 47, to the social media post and executed a search warrant yesterday (17 July, 2026) at a home in Bayswater, WA.
The man was charged with two counts of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill or cause serious harm, contrary to section 474.15 of the Criminal Code (Cth).
The maximum penalty for this offence is 10 years' imprisonment....
