CANBERRA, ACT, Feb. 5 -- Australian Federal Police issued the following media release:
A Newtown man is expected to appear before the NSW Bail Division Local Court today (5 February, 2026) charged for allegedly making an online threat towards a foreign head of state and Internationally Protected Person.
The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation in January, 2026, following a report of a threat made on a social media platform.
Investigators allegedly linked the man, 19,to the threat.
The AFP, with assistance from the NSW Police Security Investigations Unit, executed a search warrant at a home in Newtown yesterday (4 February, 2026). Items seized included a mobile phone and drug paraphernalia.
