Tiafoe survives five-set thriller to book US Open semifinal spot
New York, Sept. 9 -- Frances Tiafoe produced a stunning comeback at the US Open, rallying from two sets down and overcoming a 0-3 deficit in the fifth set to defeat compatriot Alex Michelsen 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(10-6) in a thrilling quarterfinal.
The 28-year-old battled for four hours and 38 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium to reach the US Open semifinals for the third time in his career, having previously made the last four in 2022 and 2024, according to the ATP website.
Tiafoe became the first American man this century to reach three US Open semifinals, matching the achievement of Andre Agassi, who reached the stage in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
