Kolkata, Aug. 20 -- A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the fire that broke out at Shika Inn hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street in central Kolkata, killing nine people, including a child, officials said.

The SIT will be headed by Bhagirath Ghosh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration), Detective Department, Kolkata.

The fire broke out at around 2 am on Wednesday at the hotel under the jurisdiction of New Market Police Station. Around 60 people were rescued from the building, while several others sustained injuries.

According to sources, some of those killed were Bangladeshi nationals who had travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment.
