New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Centre and the concerned States on a petition seeking a CBI investigation into an alleged large-scale medical data breach and cyberattack, in which the personal and medical records of more than 1.5 lakh Indian citizens were allegedly transferred to a server based in Singapore.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices V. Mohan and Joymalya Bagchi sought responses from the respondents after hearing Senior Advocate K. Parameshwar, appearing for the petitioner.

During the hearing, the Bench observed that offences under the Information Technology Act may require fresh legislative review.
