Washington, Nov. 4 -- As gubernatorial and federal election results deliver sweeping losses for Republicans nationwide, outgoing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a stark warning about the party's national future while positioning his state as the lone conservative stronghold to withstand the outcome.

DeSantis framed the midterm elections as a catastrophic political reset for the GOP across major statehouses and federal races.

"This is close to an extinction-level event for Republicans," DeSantis said. "To call it a wave, I don't think would be fully accurate. It's the political equivalent of a meteor strike. The one state that was able to hold the line and withstand that is right here in the free state of Florida."
