Mandya, Sept. 11 -- Karnataka Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy on Friday said the Mekedatu project is the only permanent solution to the Cauvery water issue and asserted that the state has made efforts in favour of its farmers.

Speaking on the issue of releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, Chaluvarayaswamy said a court hearing is scheduled for Monday, and the appeal is ready.

"There is a court hearing on Monday. The appeal is already filed. Till then, the legal team has said to release water. I had said to release less water. I will see how much has been released. If the order is not followed, it will be rejected again. It is not possible to release 6,000 cusecs of water. There will be a settlement on this by next Monday," he said.
