Manchester, Sept. 1 -- Manchester City have agreed a £125 million ($169 million) deal with Chelsea to sign Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez, in a transfer that matches the Premier League record fee, ESPN reported citing sources.

Fernandez has been given permission to undergo a medical after City and Chelsea reached an agreement on a fee that matches the amount Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer.

The 25-year-old midfielder had been pushing for a move away from Stamford Bridge despite Chelsea's efforts to retain him. The London club had initially set an asking price of £120 million and gave interested parties until August 14 to formalise their interest.
