Kolkata, April 3 -- All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Mofakkerul Islam, accused of leading the protests in Malda on April 1 that resulted in the gherao of seven Special Intensive Revision (SIR) judicial officers for over nine hours, was produced before the court on Friday.

He was arrested by the West Bengal CID yesterday at Bagdogra airport in Darjeeling district.

Speaking to reporters here, Islam said, "I did not say anything provocative. My movement will continue until the names of legitimate voters are registered."

Earlier in the day, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) North Bengal K Jayaraman said 35 people have been arrested till now in the Malda hostage incident.
